Stark's prose in ASK THE PARROT is consistent with his other work; it is not grandiose, but its clean, dark narrative voice compels and propels. Though the book picks up where 's NOBODY RUNS FOREVER leaves off, it is not necessary to have read that work or, for that matter, any of the previous Parker novels to fully appreciate what occurs here.

The perils of aiding, abetting and stalking a career criminal. The only complaint I have is Book 21 and 22 (Breakout and Nobody Runs Forever) are not available in audio, so I had to skip from Firebreak to Ask the Parrot. Not a deal breaker to enjoy the series as Stark geniously writes each book with a true end, which is always abrupt and unexpected, in a good way,but leaving you wanting more!!.

Ask the Parrot (eBook): Stark, Richard: On a sunny October afternoon a man is running up a hill. He's not dressed for running. Below him are barking police dogs and waiting up ahead is a stranger--with a rifle, a life full of regrets, and a parrot at home who will mutely witness just how much trouble the runner, Parker, can bring into an ordinary life.

The Parker books usually work well as standalone reads, but Ask The Parrot is too closely tangled with Nobody Runs Forever to be a good starting point for those new to the series. It also leaves several lingering plotlines from that book unresolved, making it a little disappointing for longtime fans.

My only grip with ASK THE PARROT is a minor one: This is now the 24th book in the series, which started back in the s. I guess Parker officially has entered the world of never-aging characters, since I would guess he’d be in his 70s by now.

The newest, “Ask the Parrot,” is the sequel to the ominously titled “Nobody Runs Forever” (), a cliffhanger that left Parker fleeing police tracker dogs after an armored-car holdup. Open Library is an open, editable library catalog, building towards a web page for every book ever published.
